This group is moving ahead with a media campaign with funding
from the industry and public donations. They are also planning nationwide
radio and full page advertising.

Thousands of protesters have turned out around New Zealand as the campaign continues against planned new rules on the sale of natural health products and dietary supplements.
Those totally opposed to the implementation of the Therapeutic Products and Medicines Bill, currently before parliament, say creating a single trans-Tasman regulator will erode New Zealand's sovereignty. They are concerned the legislation will erode consumer rights by allowing an Australian entity to have sole charge of industry regulation. The protesters canvassed by the press believe that heavy handed over controlling regulation from an Australian controlled bureaucracy is the last straw as people must have the right to choose the therapies and medicines best suited to their own needs. Marches and rallies have been held in Auckland, Tauranga, New Plymouth, Christchurch, Dunedin and Whangarei.

Annette King sponsor of the ‘Therapeutic Products and Medicines Bill continues to mislead the media with her half-truths basing her arguments on subjective belief that the proposed level of regulation is “appropriate” to the level of risk that natural health products pose.
The minister continues to assert that Traditional “Rongoa Maori will not be regulated” under the legislation. The indisputable fact is that there is no exemption in the Bill for Traditional Rongoa Maori, in fact it is not mentioned in the Bill at all. What the minister continues to assert is that individual remedies made up on a one-off basis may be excluded, but as soon as practitioners want to use a remedy for multiple patients, or commercialise a traditional remedy, it would be caught by the legislation. It appears that the once you cut through the ministers carefully constructed spin, it is clear to those of us who can actually see exactly what this government’s Bill will deliver to the small and medium-sized companies that comprise two-thirds of the New Zealand natural health sector if enacted - will be thrown to the wall, while the larger multinational companies represented by Natural Products NZ - a minority industry body who continue to claim that they represent over 80% of the natural health sector - another fabricated half-truth have divided the natural health sector by presenting misleading press releases to the public, however there is always an agenda behind every story and  these companies will have a bigger piece of the pie and do very nicely at the same time - if this joint agency manifests.

Members: Renewal of Charter Registration Fees and Fee increase. MEMBERS have you paid your Charter annual Fees? These were due 1st April 2007 you are not covered for Insurance if your Charter fees and Affiliate membership is not current. Once the Charter office has the Affiliate/Charter members lists back from the Secretary’s of the Affiliates and checked members are current, our office administration will then produce members Practicing Certificates and a copy of the 2007/08 Insurance Policy.

Charter AGM:  30th June 2007 this year we will have re-elections for the Registration Board and the Executive Board.  Information will be sent out to all Affiliate secretaries.
