A new study conducted at Duke University and published this past week in the Journal of Toxicology and Environmental Health, has some frightening news about Splenda (sucralose).
Part A Volume 71, Issue 21 January 2008, pages 1415 - 1429
According to the study, the use of Splenda:
• Reduces the amount of good bacteria in the intestines by 50%.
• Increases the pH level in the intestines.
• Contributes to increased body weight.
• And affects the P-glycoprotein (P-gp) in the body in such a way that crucial health-related drugs could be rejected.
Food Safety
A recent report from the United States — After the first reports of a salmonella outbreak this spring, it took a full 89 days before jalapeño and serrano peppers came under suspicion as the culprit. During that period, more than 1,440 victims were hospitalized. Bacterial outbreaks have become more high-profile, and the financial fallout from recalls more severe and while tomato and spinach growers are audited heavily because they've had so many problems in the past, other crops, such as broccoli and cauliflower, are scrutinized less. Many growers are living in a continuing state of denial about whether they should be doing anything. For chicken slaughter facilities squeezed by rising costs, surreptitiously cutting out E. coli tests has been one of their money-saving tactics.
U.S. News & World Report September 10, 2008
Mean while in New Zealand we have an elevated level of annual food poisoning with campylobacter possibly being currently the most prevalent which can be corrected by prohibiting the sale of fresh poultry and only allowing the sale of frozen poultry. A very simple corrective approach, but neither the Ministry of Health or the Australia New Zealand Food Safety Authority have taken any effective steps to ensure the safety of poultry for our consumers.
A high percentage of meat, fruit and vegetables are imported from overseas without country of origin labels. We can therefore expect a continuing increase of food poisonings due to the ineptitude of our administrator regulators who are not subject to being accountable by our elected parliament. To combat food borne-illnesses there needs to be a major overhaul of our food safety programs, without implementing methods that further contribute to the degradation of the food supply such as irradiation or high heat. Research Irradiation Concerns
Irradiation breaks up the cell walls of your food, kills beneficial enzymes and creates harmful free radicals. Some of the compounds created by the process are known to be carcinogenic (cancer-causing) while others have never been seen before or studied. The consumption of irradiated food and microwaved food causes a depletion of immune function. Yes there are studies that show that microwaving fruit and vegetables does not alter the amount of vitamins and minerals in the food it does however wipe out enzymes that are required by the body to extract essential nutrients required for healthy function. Patients have also reported that the new method of treating imported seeds and beans with high heat prevents them from sprouting, so once again you are faced with empty food which will not provide the full compliment of essential nutrients.
With the ever increasing number of New Zealanders with health problems ranging from Morbid Obesity, Diabetes, Heart Attacks, Strokes, Cancer and other degenerative disease problems as well as what is euphemistically labeled as Chronic Fatigue.
A Major Overhaul is Needed — Now!
Food Safety and Food integrity is a Major Concern
Food Safety is a major concern with a direct relationship to healthy function. We need to overhaul our food systems, including food production and food safety. There are safer methods for achieving food safety that will ensure that that our food when consumed will have the maximum nutrients possible. We can only hope at this stage that the new government in 2009 will have the intestinal fortitude to enact legislation that will rectify this deplorable state of affairs. If the incoming government fails to take corrective action, those that support the Freedom of Choice in Health may be forced to enter into a stronger campaign than the very successful anti Australian Therapeutic Goods Administration takeover of New Zealand’s health. A Parallel Situation
It is interesting to note that the recent high incidence of collapsing Finance Companies, the international financial crisis and closure of a number of banks in the United States of America and Europe as well as the ensuring economic downturn has come about primarily because of the lack of Corporate Responsibility and Accountability. The CEO’s of the failed Finance Companies and Banks all received enormous golden handshakes which is a strange reward for running a business into the ground. The parallel situation being neither the administrators nor staff of the Ministry of Health and the Australia New Zealand Food Safety Authority are held accountable for their actions or inactions. Corporate Accountability is a major key in ensuring the correct operation of any government department (in fact any CORPORATE body) common justice demands that both food borne-illnesses and harmful adverse reactions to medical procedures and prescribed drugs should be laid at the door of those who are ostensibly in charge of the operation of corporate bodies.
Urgent Action needs to be taken now
The current health crisis has taken sixty years to develop and is now compounding at an exponential rate — we cannot afford to wait another sixty years for this crisis to be rectified if ever — Urgent action needs to be instituted right now tomorrow may be too late.
In last months Ezine I asked the question:—
Are we being set up for a big crash?
